We edge one step closer to easing the format and DRM issues that have hampered the slow uptake of ebooks, with the news that Sony (and its Reader) will support ePub format and Adobe Digital Editions version of copy-control.

Sony is worried about Amazon and its Kindle, are they? I say both Sony Reader and Amazon Kindle should be worried about the upcoming Apple tablet, because if that thing runs iTunes Apps, and people can put Stanza (or some other reading App, I’m not biased, no sir) on there, say bye bye to bothering with dedicated ereaders.

After all, why pay big books for a thing that only reads books (and not necessarily that well) when you can pay big bucks for a thing that reads books (well) and also does everything else Apple stuff can do (well)? Borders agrees with me.

After my reminder earlier this week about protecting your electronic files, don’t forget to protect your paper ‘files’ too.
