Very pleased with progress this week: I’ve done another good 20,000 words. If I continue at this pace, I will have finished Simon’s part of the third (and last) draft by the end of September (with a two-week-holiday in the middle).
The ever-problematic Lily POV may take me a little longer, but I am looking on track to get the third draft finished and then settle into the clean-up editing stage by November; I’m hoping to have the manuscript finished by the end of the year.
It was a very positive week for the writing, but a very negative for the why-bother thoughts…thousands (upon thousands) of books published every year, thousands of people wanting to get published…why bother?
It comes down to why you write, and I write because I love it, not because I ever expect to publish a bestseller (nor, honestly, would I want to; the publicity would give me nightmares). That I can make money out of writing is icing (but, like all professional writers, I do not write for free), but the love of doing it is the cake. Having an audience is some other dessert-related stretched metaphor thingo…
