Big slap on the wrist for me this week, as I did no fiction whatsoever. My long weekend was longer than I expected, for starters (which is nice, really), and then I had so much catch-up to do…
And I don’t plan to do any fiction this coming week either. I’m going to concentrate on finalising my current non-fiction project and then get back to the novel after that, in the first week of August. I think I’m just setting myself up to fail if I try and set fiction targets at the moment.
I have noticed though, that the less fiction-writing I do, the less confident I become about it, so I absolutely must get back to it after this week before I become morassed.
On the plus side, I did get a bit of research done for some of the more historically-based aspects of the novel (it’s a made-up world, but with some of the technology of the early 1700s of southern Europe).
Signing off, hot and grouchy.

Don’t beat yourself over the head for not working on the fiction ALL the time. Sometimes there are other important projects that also just demand some focus.
I’ve just finished the design of my website, which put editing my novel on hold. However, I cannot submit my MS to my agent without having a website live, so that is a priority that needed addressing.
And, sometimes, you do need a break to gain some perspective on a story.
Oh, absolutely – in fact, this week, by concentrating only on non-fiction, I finished a day early than expected and now have a entire day free to get my third draft underway.
